The train depot was designed with two front doors, one facing south to serve the east-west line and one facing west to serve the north-south line. In the bottom border is the third image of the “old apple tree” -here partly grown and in bloom.  The tree that John McLoughlin planted and nurtured had thrived and was producing apples. The top border features the ubiquitous dandelion.

Many Chinese were brought here to build what is called “China Ditch” – an area in Hockinson on the east side of the county with extensive marshlands. A large contingent of Chinese laborers was hired to dig a huge ditch to drain the Hockinson area, hence the name China Ditch.
