The first American to win an Olympic medal in skiing was a Vancouver resident.  In the 1948 Olympics she won a gold medal in the slalom and a silver in the Alpine combined event.  The panel features a parade in her honor put on by the local Trapadero Teen Club. The black-haired girl sitting in the car is one of the co-founders of the Tapestry, Eleanor Van de Water at age 17. In the top border is the logo of Soroptimists International, established in Vancouver in the late 1930’s.
